One of the best parts of my Washington and Lee experience was working with wluLex, a student-driven social media brand. The brand is one of two official social media channels run by the school’s Office of Communications and Public Affairs. I spent my junior and senior years on the nine-member team.
Our team built content covering six different platforms and multiple beats of student life. Being part of the team kept me in the loop about student life from tons of different angles, allowing me to tell diverse stories about life on campus using the wide scope of formats that come with social media.
I led a few different campaigns during my time on the team. One campaign, wluFriends, helped tell the story of friendship across the campus through videos, photos and in-person activations. During finals week my senior year, I helped spearhead a live, holiday-themed photo booth that over 80 students visited in two hours.
My time with wluLex gave the chance to hone my video editing skills. I made 15 videos during my two years, both horizontal and vertical. Experimenting with styles and formats served as my first major forays into creating videos, and fueled my passion for visual storytelling.
