The first internship I had during college was with the research and development division of United Technologies. I joined the six-person communications team as a summer intern in East Hartford, Connecticut.
I helped support organization’s internal news efforts. This work forced me to learn about specialized, Ph.D-level research taking place at the organization, and translating that work into broadly digestible content for the organization.
UTRC worked directly with all the United Technologies business units at the time of my internship, allowing me to interact with the entire UTC infrastructure, including HQ. I spoke with communications team members at all four business units to inform an internal marketing initiative I began working on during my time as an intern.
The communications team exposed me to a variety of experiences that made my internship extra special, including a media interviews, the ability to join special visits and activities taking place across the organization, and the chance to work with folks across the United Technologies ecosystem.
The nature of my work at UTRC prevented any of the work I did as an intern from being released externally.
United Technologies merged with Raytheon in 2020 to form Raytheon Technologies. UTRC is now known as the Raytheon Technologies Research Center.
