Washington and Lee has a bit of a “buttoned up” campus. There is hustle, but our smaller student body gives us fewer “characters” on campus. After watching a bunch of Billy on the Street clips, the wluLex team decided to adapt those hilarious clips into our own not-so-subtle riff. Thus, wluLex on the ‘Nade was born.
I worked with my wluLex team to make this concept work on campus. It may look like we just ran around with a camera (and you would be right), but dealing with unpredictability was a battle on the ground and in Final Cut.
We knew it was important to tap into our unique campus culture to make the most of this concept. The Cadaver Society is a secret society of students and alumni whose presence is a mystery to all. The president of our student body joined the wluLex team on our quest to find Cadaver to show themselves on camera.
Along with the “man/woman on the street with a microphone” concept, our team adapted the idea to interview our university president. This interview tied-in with Give Day, a donation drive organized by Washington and Lee’s development office.
